LinkShare Affiliate / Referral Program Details: Joining the LinkShare Referral Program gives you access to hundreds of web merchants. Each merchant has their own terms for payout limits. LinkShare's Referral Program is applied for after joining LinkShare (you'd think it would be automatic) pays out after you reach $10 in commissions. The rate from each referral changes and you really need to check the rate at the time you sign up as offers change. You login to a secure account to begin adding merchants. You will need to apply to each merchant for whom you want to become an affiliate. Some automatically accept new applications and others need to review your web site and will email you as to whether you have been accepted or declined. Once you have been accepted by a merchant, you can begin adding links. The type of link available varies greatly from merchant to merchant. You can track your sales through your LinkShare account.

The thing that makes LinkShare better than some of the other affiliate programs is the wide variety of link types. Some but not all available merchants offer dynamic rich media such as xml feeds but many do have individual and store front links along with the normal textual and banner links. All links are very easy to use. Everything you need is contained in one easy to copy code. The 5 rating is mainly due to ease of use and variety of links and merchants.

Drawbacks of LinkShare: Many times you can apply for a merchant and you get declined for no apparent reason. Some merchants don't have continuous offers so you have to wonder at the wisdom of using them at all. The categories often have repeats of merchants that aren't pertinent to that category. Appealing any lost or non tracking revenue or if a merchant does not pay lands on deaf ears but most of the merchants are reliable. Another drawback of LinkShare and many of the other affiliate programs is that often security and spamming software will filter out links and banners. These are probably people who would not purchase from you anyway.

All in all Linkshare is a good tool to have in your webmaster's toolbox and certainly worthy of a free sign-up.
