Easy Photo Edges
using Masks
1) Open a picture and duplicate the window by clicking Shift + D. Close the original picture.
2) Create a new layer. Flood fill it with black.
3) Select all. Then click Selections > Modify > Contract. Contract by 30 pixels. Click delete to clear the black in the center. Now invert your selection by clicking Selections > Invert or Shift + Control + I. You should now have the outside black border selected.
4) Click Effects > Geometric Effects > CurlyQs and use the settings below.

5) Click Effects > Geometric Effects > Ripple and use the settings below.

6) Deselect. Now we need to select the black we distorted. Using the magic wand with a tolerance of around 40, select the border.
7) Now merge all the layers with selection still active.
8) Make it a mask. Click Masks > New > Hide selection.
9) Make the background whatever color you want. Add a layer and move it to the bottom. Flood fill it with your favorite color. Merge all layers. Now apply a bevel and you are done! Once you see how easy these are to make, you won't be able to stop.
