1. File > New and set options as follows: Width = 600; Height = 300; Resolution = 72 pixels; Raster Background checked; Color Depth = 16 million colors; Transparency checked. Click
Ok.
2. Click Layers > New Raster Layer and
OK.
3. We need to make our metal texture before we add our text. Click the
materials palette and make the
background color #808080 which is a dark grey. Click the flood fill tool and
flood fill the current layer with the silver
by right clicking.
4. Now the noise. Click
Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise. Set options as follows: Random is checked; Noise = 35%; Monochrome checked. Click
OK.
5. Click
Adjust > Blur > Motion Blur. Options as follows: Angle = 224; Strength = 100%. Click
OK.
6. Click
Layers > New Raster Layer. Now to add the text. I used the KellyAnnGothic font. You can find it at
FontFreak. You can also use any font you want.
Click your text tool which is the A icon.
Click somewhere on the graphic. Then
type your text in the text entry box and
highlight it in entry box. With text entry box still up, set text tool options as follows: Create As = Selection; Font = KellyAnnGothic; Size = 72; Stroke Width = 0; anti alias checked; the rest of the options should be left as they are. Click
OK and your text should appear as a selection. I usually highlight the text in the text entry box so you can change the settings without starting over but some may prefer to set the text tool options and THEN type the text in the entry box. The important part is to make sure that the text is created as a selection by having the Create As set to selection.
7. Click the
layer with our metal background on it. Should be
raster 2. Click
Edit > Copy. Now
click back to layer raster 3 with the text selection on it. Click
Edit > Paste > Paste Into Selection.
8. Now for the fun part!
Click Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout and set as follows:
Offset:
Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Attributes:
Opacity = 100%
Blur = 3
Color:
Shadow Color = Black
Fill interior with color unchecked
Click
OK.
9. Click
Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow and set as follows:
Offset:
Vertical = 1
Horizontal = 1
Attributes:
Opacity = 50
Blur = 2
Color = White
Click
OK.
Selections > Select None. Click
Layers > Merge > Merge All. You are all done!
