Maegg's Glass Effect with KPT5

KPT 5 is a Plugin filter. You will need it to do this tut. It does not come with psp 8.

1 - Open a new file. 500 x 500 pixels with transparent background.

2 - Add a new layer.

3 - Flood fill this layer with any background you want. I used the craggy texture that came with psp 7.

4 - Select the shapes tool. Choose ellipse, retain style unchecked, antialias checked, create as vector checked. Line width is one. Set foreground to null and background to white. Draw an ellipse however big you want. Then click objects> align> center in canvas.

5 - Layers> convert to raster layer.

6 - With the ellipse layer active, click selections> all. Then click selections> float and your ellipse will be selected. Now is a good time to save the selection to alpha channel so you can easily use the selection for effects without having to use the selection tool which can be a pain.

7 - Now for the hard part. Download my kpt5 presets, lights presets & environment map:

Maegg's Silver Preset

Kae Lights preset

Cool Kitchen Map

You will need to unzip the presets into the correct directory. Copy or move the coolkitchen.jpg to it's directory. Here is the directory structure on my computer it is plugins, KPT5, Presets, Shapeshifter for maegg's silver preset. Plugins, KPT5, Presets, Lights for the kae lights preset. Plugins, KPT5, Presets, EnvMaps for the coolkitchen.jpg. Getting all these in the right place is the hardest part of this whole process. Now for the fun.

8 - With your white ellipse selected, go to effects> plugins> kpt5 shapeshifter. In the bottom left hand corner is a circle with some squares in it. Click that to call up KPT5 presets. You will see an up and down arrow on the left bottom of the dialogue box. Use these to scroll through presets. Scroll until you find maegg. It has a few different presets in there but for this project you need my silver preset which is the second one. Select that and then hit the check to choose it and apply it to the graphic. You are now back at the main KPT5 shapeshifter screen and your ellipse should look different but still needs lighting and the coolkitchen.jpg. Now go to the Lights box and load my kae lights presets. Choose the third one. Back at the main KPT5 screen, click on the picture in the environment box and choose the coolkitchen.jpg. That completes all the KPT5 requirements. Click the main check to accept it all and return to the psp graphic. Click Selections> Defloat.

9 - For the most part you are done. Now you need to adjust the layer opacity to make it as transparent as you want. You can load the selection from alpha channel if needed to add effects. You can colorize it to get a different tint, add a drop shadow or lighting effect if you choose and you are done!
