This is a quick easy way to lighten photos without making selections or messing with settings. Here is our photo before we correct it. It was taken on a dreary day and the glass appears black in some areas. You can't even tell what the true colors of the window are.
To Gamma Correct:
1 - Open your photo.
2 - Click Adjust > Brightness & Contrast > Gamma Correction. I set the curve to 3.10 for this photo but usually somewhere around 2 works if the photo is larger. Just my own experience and I have taken hundreds of stained glass pictures.
3 - Save your photo.

There is a huge difference and the colors can now be seen.
Tip: PSP 8 will hold the last setting you used. To correct additional photos just open the photo and click Shft + G and save.
