This is a very easy tutorial and good for beginners. The brown and white make this text look like oreos. Other colors give a more stroked effect.
1) Click File > New. Create a new transparent image 4 x 2 inches. Resolution: 72px, raster background, 24 bit.
2) Add a new raster layer. Layers > New Raster Layer.
3) Flood fill layer with color #C0C0FF. Click the flood fill tool. Select foreground in materials and type in the color. If you don't see the materials palette, click View > Palettes and select it from the list.
4) Add another new raster layer. Layers > New Raster Layer.
5) Change foreground color to white and background color to a chocolate brown. I used #655757.
6) Now to add the text. Click the text tool. Create as: Vector, Font: Tahoma, Size: 36, stroke: 0, Anti-Alias checked, alignment center, bold. The thing with the text tool is you want to have all your options already set BEFORE you type your text. Now click the cursor in the image and a dialogue box comes up to enter your text. Type your text, click ok.
7) Click Objects > Align > Center in Canvas
8) Click Layers > Convert to Raster Layer.
9) Click Selections > All. Selections > Float. Your text should be selected now.
10) Click Effects > 3d Effects > Drop Shadow. Set options as in the screen shot. Be sure and change the color to white.
